Ten employees from Mast Farms & Black Prairie Tractor & Equipment went on a deep-sea fishing trip to Destin, FL this week. All got sick except one, even though they had taken motion sickness pills. Almost all of them were able to fish though before the trip was over. One of them caught a 94.2 lb tuna & won 2nd place for the month of Oct. The tuna that got first place was only 1½ lbs. bigger. Then two of the others won 1st & 2nd place in the scamp contest. It was a trip to be remembered by all despite the fact that several of them said they will not go fishing again.

Kevin Shirk, Sr. had a hernia repair surgery on Thursday in Columbus as an outpatient. He’s mending as well as can be expected.

Ottis Mast had back surgery on Monday at Northport Medical Center in AL. He was repaired with two 3½ inch rods & 6 screws, 2 inches long. It was a 4 hour procedure. The first several days he was in terrific pain. On Thursday evening Ottis’s son, Glenn stayed with him at the hospital so Ottis’s wife, Anna Mae could get a nights sleep in a bed instead of the hospital recliner. Their daughter, Cheryl stayed with Anna Mae in a motel room. The next morning Anna Mae expressed herself as having had a “million dollar” night, because it felt so wonderful to be able to stretch out in a bed. She really did look rejuvenated. Glen and Ernest Masts brought their parents home this evening.

Paul Shirks spent the weekend at Hillcrest Nursing Home in AR with their daughter, Emily for her birthday. From there they are planning on going to Nebraska where Paul will hold a week of revival meetings.

Phyllis and daughter Vicky are home from Honduras. They will be returning in Jan. They will be living with her parents, Mervin and Jewel Miller.

It was another memorable annual camping weekend at Grenada, MS for the youth. Inclement weather, Fri night, made some campers choose to sleep in vehicles while others reneged and went to a motel. There was a bicycle accident that resulted in a broken arm for Steven Shirk. The accident caused one of the girls to faint. Galen & Jason Schrocks went along as their cooks. Shelah Petre’s friend, Matt Nolt, came for the weekend too.

Lester Schrocks, their sons and families camped at Dwayne Haynes Park this week end.

Last week I failed to mention that mother, Sylvia Miller and I visited Maynard and Mary Borntrager at Trinity Place in Columbus, MS. They have settled in quite well and Mary is in therapy for the shoulder replacement she had earlier. Alva Yoder paid them a visit while we were there.

Lester Schrocks and Ottis Masts attended an MDS meeting this week in northern IL. They returned this evening, bringing Ellis Bontrager of IN with them. Ellis will be driving an MDS rig back to IN.

Ottis Mast is scheduled for a back surgery for his sciatic nerve problem on Monday Oct. 26 at Northport Medical Center in Northport, AL. He is expecting a hospital stay of several days.

Stanley and Anna Schrock left on Mon to attend the annual get together of Stanley's siblings. Stanley's sister, Naomi and Mervin Mast of AR came for them last Wed. and will bring them home again this next week.

We are enjoying beautiful fall days and cool nights. The Faith fellowship youth are camping in North MS this week end. With youthful energy, I'm sure they kept warm.

The Maranatha church at Taylorsville had communion today with Paul Shirk bringing the message.

The youth were at John Mullets tonight after church.  They helped make the refreshments which was soft-pretzels.  They were very creative in their pretzel designs; making a 11" long braid,  flowers, butterhorn roll, letters, doughnuts, & blobs.   This was served with rotel cheese dip. It was an evening enjoyed by all.
